Realizing the need to train apprentices, The Government of India has launched the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme in an effort to improve apprenticeship training. Through this program, the government is planning to share the costs of training with institutions within apprenticeship programs, so the training of apprentices can be improved. Basic training costs through basic training providers will be covered by the federal government. The cost of basic training will be restricted to 7500 for a time period of 500 hours/three months. In this plan, 25 per cent of the stipend prescribed up to a maximum amount of 1500 per calendar month for each apprentice is to be shared between the federal government and employers.

It is important to note that the stipend assistance in the NAPS will not be provided during the initial training period for new apprentices. In the plan, each class of apprentices that are not covered by NPS will get covered.

Types Of Apprenticeship Training

  • Basic Training:Basic training is a type of education that is offered to people who have not completed any type of instruction prior to starting on their job training. In the National apprenticeship promotion scheme, the price of training for basic up to Rs 7500 is borne by the government to ensure that the training is made more accessible.
  • On-the-job education:On the job training or training in the practical sense is a type of training that is offered in establishments. It is usually offered by the establishment it self. In on-the-job training, the trainee is exposed to practical work the candidate to ensure that they are able to do their job flawlessly. The cost of training for on the job training program is part of the state budget within a certain amount to ensure that the training is made more widely available.

Implementing Agencies Of National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme

For Central public sector enterprises and establishments operating their business within 4 states, the state regional directorates of apprenticeship and training, under the supervision of the directorate-general for training will be the implementing agencies that are part of the scheme. In the public sector of the state and private enterprises, The State apprenticeship advisers would serve as agencies that implement the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme. In the event of the success of the national apprenticeship promotion scheme, The state government will take an active part in the promotion of apprenticeship education. In addition, the state will put an apprenticeship council for the state that will also establish apprenticeship centres in every state. This council will be responsible for ensuring the proper implementation of the program.

Stipend Payment To Employers
